Release Conditions<\/b> allow you to release content and activities in a sequential order or to create custom learning paths for your students through the materials and activities in your unit. For example, you could create a condition that requires students to view a content topic before they gained access to a quiz. A wide range of Release Conditions are available for many of the tools in Brightspace and essentially work in the same way in every tool so provide a great deal of flexibility when you are considering how you would like student to access your learning materials and activities.<\/p>\n

Adding a release condition in Brightspace<\/p><\/div>\n

Here’s some examples of how Release Conditions may be used to help guide students through their revision.<\/p>\n

Learning pathways<\/h3>\n

You can use release conditions to release content and activities on your unit in a sequential order. To reveal content topics to users only after they have engaged with prior content, attach release conditions to the subsequent topics. This steers students through a learning path providing a clear, customised route through the learning materials. It can also help students avoid procrastination and encourage them to stay on task.<\/p>\n

Bite-size learning<\/h3>\n

Using release conditions (or date restrictions) you can release content on your unit in stages. Chunking up content into key topics released in a timely manner makes large quantities of information more manageable and prevents students from becoming overwhelmed.<\/p>\n

Quizzing<\/h3>\n

Iterative quizzes are a great revision tool and can be set up with an unlimited number of attempts for students to progress their learning, and can also be used with release conditions. For example, a revision quiz is only made available to students after a piece of content has been viewed, such as a lecture recording. Or you could set a release condition to open up a piece of content for students who score below (or above) a specified grade on a quiz; nudging them towards further learning support.<\/p>\n

Announcements<\/h3>\n

You can use release conditions with the announcement tool, meaning you can post an announcement and filter it to those who have met certain criteria. For example, you could set up a survey giving students an option of which topic areas they would like to revisit in next week\u2019s lecture. Everyone who hasn\u2019t completed a survey attempt could receive an announcement reminding them to put forward their choice.<\/p>\n

Intelligent agents<\/h3>\n

Release conditions can be added to intelligent agents to create automated email notifications for students. For example, you could create an intelligent agent that sends a reminder email to students who have not yet completed a revision quiz or viewed a key revision lecture recording on the unit.<\/p>\n
