SCHOMS Annual Conference 2019<\/p>\n
SCHOMS<\/a> is the\u00a0professional body for Senior Managers<\/strong>\u00a0working within UK and Republic of Ireland Higher Education and its members lead and manage a diverse set of educational, technological, media and institutional development and support services. They give\u00a0strategic direction<\/strong>\u00a0to support technological trends and\u00a0promote excellence in teaching <\/strong>and\u00a0learning practices and their environments<\/strong>. This year Bournemouth University hosted their three day conference, 25-27 June.<\/p>\n As part of the conference, BU Learning Technologists, working with Debbie Holley, Professor of Learning Innovation and Education Impact evaluation expert\u00a0 Dr Ben Goldsmith\u00a0 delivered a workshop entitled Tech futures: Innovating pedagogy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Bournemouth University has already hosted its first holographic lecture, presented by BBC Arts editor\u00a0Will Gompertz<\/a>; is building an immersive suite; and is exploring technobooths of the future \u00a0\u2013 but what technologies are there that are pedagogically sound, \u00a0low cost, and can be delivered at scale? This interactive workshop introduced participants to emergent technologies that\u00a0 reflected the recent Open University<\/a> Innovating Pedagogy Report on new forms of teaching, learning and assessment for an interactive world. It invited attendees to become active participants in productive innovation, and invited them to consider how they would meet the challenges of embedded these into daily teaching and learning.<\/p>\n Our workshop offered participants, working in teams, the opportunity to consider a one-minute ‘pitch’ about a technology of their choice, and to use Chroma key and green screen technology to select a background, prepare a narrative and to film, before having all the table presentations shared and judged for a prize.<\/p>\n The LT team had prepared interactive materials using 360 video and the software to illustrate the affordances and interactivity a greenscreen could offer educators.<\/p>\n
