FAQs

 Booking tickets

  • Do I need to book a ticket for the drop-in activities?

Yes, you should book a day ticket which will give you access to all drop-in activities with just one ticket.

  • I am having difficulty booking an event, can someone help me?

If you are struggling to book your event online, please call us on 01202 961961 and we will be happy to assist you on the phone.

  • The event that I wanted to attend is sold out, is there a waiting list?

Unfortunately our ticket booking system does not have a waiting list feature. If an event is sold out, keep checking the website as we will release any cancelled tickets. You are welcome to come along on the day and if there is space available, you can register on the door.

  • Are there age restrictions on the events?

Any age restrictions are clearly marked on the website and the printed brochure.   Each event has recommended audience types, which demonstrates which age group the event is aimed at.

  • I am booking a ticket for my child to attend an event – do I need a ticket to accompany my child?

All children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult, unless otherwise stated.   If you are accompanying your child to an interactive event, at which you will not take part, you do not need to book a ticket for yourself.  However, if you are accompanying your child to a talk, such as talks by our guest speaker Anna McNuff or Science Made Simple events, then you will need to book a ticket to secure your seat.  If you are not sure whether you need to book a ticket for a specific event, please contact our Festival of Learning team by email fol@bournemouth.ac.uk or phone 01202 961961.

  • Is there a maximum number of tickets that I can order for an event?

You can book up to 6 tickets per order. If you wish to book more than 6 orders, you will just need to create another order. When booking, you will be asked to give the name and age of the additional attendees.

  • Do I need to print my tickets?

You do not need to print your tickets to gain entry to the event, as we will have a list of registered attendees. However, if you have booked to attend several events, the tickets may act as a reminder for the events and timings. You should ensure to print your festival bus pass, if you wish to travel on the UNIBUS or MoreBus services.

  • How do I cancel my booking?

Please send an email to fol@bournemouth.ac.uk with the event that you wish to cancel, and the names of the people booked to attend. We will then cancel this for you. Alternatively, you can phone 01202 961961 and we will be able to assist you on the phone. The full cancellation policy can be found in our Terms and Conditions on the website.

 At the festival

  • Is there any charge to attend any of the events?

No, all of our Festival of Learning events are free to attend.

  • Do children have to be accompanied by adults?

Yes, all children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult whilst attending our events, unless otherwise stated.

  • Are there baby changing facilities available?

Yes, baby changing facilities can be found in the Fusion building, Talbot House and the Library. Please ask a member of staff on the day for directions.

  • Are there places to eat at the university campus?

Yes, a range of catering outlets will be open throughout the festival. During Saturday’s Festival for the Family, we will have a BBQ and an ice cream stall (weather permitting), and designated picnic zones if you wish to bring your own food.

  • What happens if I am running late for an event, can I still be admitted?

We advise that attendees arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the event, as we try to reallocate any spare seats on a first come, first served basis. So if you’re running late you may lose your seat.

  • Do I need to print my ticket for the event?

You do not need to print your tickets to gain entry to the event, as we will have a list of registered attendees. However, if you have booked to attend several events, the tickets may act as a reminder for the events and timings. You should ensure to print your festival bus pass, if you wish to travel on the UNIBUS or MoreBus services.

  • What happens if it rains?

On Saturday, many of our activities are planned to take place outside. But don’t worry – if it rains we have wet weather plans for almost all of the activities, so do come along anyway.

On Sunday, we will be located at Poole Quay. Our activities will be under cover, but do check the website in the case of extreme weather conditions, as we will relocate to an alternative venue.

Our weekday activities are all scheduled to take place indoors.
