It was attended by a great number of people who wanted to understand the concept of gaming and its impact on the tourism experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p>The event started with a workshop themed \u2018Gaming and Gamification in tourism: opening a new experience\u2019, which addressed the phenomenon\u2019s gamification and location-based games and introduced best practices in the tourism industry. Topics related to this issue included \u2018Augmented Reality Gaming: A new Paradigm for Tourist Experience\u2019, \u2018Location-based games for tourism\u2019, \u2018Gamification and Online Engagement\u2019 and \u2018Using Game Design Elements for Visitor Experience Enhancement\u2019. These were introduced by representatives of tourism companies and organisations that have already found innovative approaches for incorporating gaming and gamification in their strategies, such as Hans Petter Aalmo from Visit Norway, Roman Rackwitz from Engaginglab and Mads Haahr from Haunted Planet.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p>The event concluded with the launch of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifitt.org\/\">IFITT\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0Digital Knowledge Bank by Professor Matthias Fuchs from European Tourism Research Institute (ETOUR) at Mid-Sweden University. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ifitt.org\/\">IFITT<\/a>\u00a0Digital Knowledge Bank comprises the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ifitt.org\/home\/digital_lib\">IFITT Digital Library<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ifitt.org\/home\/view\/the_ifitt_eTourism_curriculum\">IFITT eTourism Curriculum<\/a>\u00a0and a theme-specific Wikipedia called the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ifitt.org\/home\/view\/ifitt-e-tourism-wikipedia\">IFITT eTourism Wikipedia<\/a>. All these novelties are aimed at further disseminating the global knowledge about tourism and technology and can be accessed through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ifitt.org\/home\/resources\">&#8216;Resources&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0tab on the IFITT Website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p>The event was attended by more than 200 people who wanted to learn how gaming can be applied in the tourism context and find out from leading experts in the field about current best practices and future opportunities of gaming for the tourism industry.\u00a0 Great interaction took place online as well as offline. Live tweets and Facebook updates kept the audience engaged while the speakers were happy to answer questions regarding their topics.
