At this difficult times human life and humanity should prevail above everything. Coronavirus has also destroyed economies and generated an economic and humanitarian crisis that we have not seen since the second world war. Transport\, travel\, tourism\, hospitality\, sports\, entertainment industries and everything that supports socialising were hit worse and are suffering the consequences. \nThe Mediterranean tourism\, travel\, transport and entertainment ecosystem has reached ground zero as result of coronavirus. The majority of the business and the regions that depend on tourism and travel are desperate to reopen and go back to the “new” normality. Italy\, Spain and France are the 3 most important destinations for tourism in Europe. Greece\, Cyprus and Portugal on the other hand managed coronavirus remarkably well and therefore are expected to be able to reopen their holiday resorts early and welcome tourism activity. They can only reopen when it is safe to do for staff\, employees and residents of destinations but also of transit and origin regions. In the meanwhile we need to prepare with new processes and procedures across all our functions to be able to reopen in a safe and enjoyable conditions. The European Union and governments need to take care of these regions and coordinate efforts for the support of this ecosystem that is responsible for a significant proportion of employment but also recreation and cohesion of society. \nThe eTourismLab\, International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research\, Bournemouth University and Tourism Review are organising an online conference to bring together experts from the Mediterranean region to discuss the condition and preparedness to reopen the tourism industry and exchange ideas and expertise on best ways to REIGNITE TOURISM. This is a three-day conference that will include a doctoral colloquium day and industry best practice thread. The theme of the conference is Tourism in the era of connectivity and will cover a broad range of themes to ensure that we are inclusive of the widest range of tourism research. \nPeople to people connectivity is an essential aspect of tourism; bringing people from all aspects of life together to meet\, share moments and explore cultures\, resources and experiences. Connectivity brings us together through shared routes\, accessibility\, communication\, and experiences in different environments and destinations. Increasingly\, global society is becoming more connected\, facilitating opportunities for exchange and interaction\, bringing both opportunities and challenges. Tourism is changing dramatically in the era of connectivity. Advanced technology enables users to amalgamate information and big data from various sources on their mobile devices\, personalise their profile through applications and social networks\, as well as interact dynamically with their surroundings and context. Tourism professionals increasingly use technologies and networking to bring different stakeholders together to co-create value for all. The conference will connect the different concepts of connectivity\, personalisation\, tourism development and marketing towards co-creation of the tourism experience. Scott has held lecturing posts for 20 years and his main teaching roles are in tourist consumer behaviour\, tourist experience\, tourism marketing management and qualitative research methodologies. Prior to joining Higher Education Scott worked in the tourism and hospitality industry first in the Peak District National Park and then during his travels in Australia and South East Asia. Scott’s research interests include tourist experience and behaviour\, non-participation and social equity issues in tourism often called ‘Social Tourism’\, socio-linguistics and communication in tourism and ethnographic and qualitative research methodologies. He is the author of a number of journal articles and book chapters on these subjects. His main research interests include tourist consumer behaviour; tourist experience and consumption; non-participation\, social equity and social exclusion in tourism; tourism marketing communications and representation in tourism promotion; qualitative sociological/ethnographic research methods in tourism. \n  \nProfessor Tanja Mihalič University of Ljubljana\, Slovenia. \nProfessor Tanja Mihalič is Professor at the Department of Economics and Head of Tourism Institute and Erasmus Mundus European Master in Tourism Management program at the Faculty of Economics the University of Ljubljana\, Slovenia. Prof Mihalič is also the Vice dean for student affairs at the Faculty of Economics. Professor Mihalič is a member of the UNWTO World Committee on Tourism Ethics and a board member of the International Association of Tourism Economics. She is a co-editor or active member of editorial boards of many academic journals. She is also an expert evaluator for the European Commission. Her research interests include tourism economics and management\, environmental economics\, sustainability and educational and tourism industry values. She has experience in developing tourism educational and research programs and as adviser in sustainable and responsible tourism to national governments and EU and global bodies. \n  \n  \nProfessor Mike Peters\, Department of Strategic Management\, Marketing and Tourism\, University of Innsbruck\, Austria \n \nMike was born in Germany\, completed his apprenticeship as a restaurant specialist and worked for several years in the hotel industry. He worked in small businesses in Bavaria where he learned the benefits but also problems that typical small businesses face. Mike studied Business Administration at the University of Regensburg Germany and the University of Innsbruck Austria and specialized in tourism and service economy. He completed his doctorate in 2001 and habilitated at the University of Innsbruck. In 2006 he was Research Fellow at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby (BC\, Canada)\, in 2009\, he was invited as Associate Visiting Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University (China). SUMMARY:BU Artificial Intelligence for Tourism and Hospitality – #IFITTtalk
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT \n\nThe (re) emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a service automation approach leveraging low cost computing and large datasets is impacting consumer experiences and is set to revolutionize tourism experiences. The ubiquitous and prevailing use of mobile devices for communication assures that stakeholders of such ‘consumer experiences’ are required to provide rapid responses to contextual queries made at any time\, including within an experience encounter or activity at a destination level. AI tools that can make sense of real-time questions posed by consumers in context can provide significant value and increase engagement as well as reducing costs to destination organizations. The use of AI by tourism organizations is still low and this workshop will explore the opportunities and challenges of engaging AI as a customer co-creation toolset for industry and economic benefits. SUMMARY:CHME2018 PHD Workshop
DESCRIPTION:PhD Workshop \nAs part of the conference\, we will be hosting a workshop for doctoral candidates on 22nd May 2018. This pre-conference event provides a platform for doctoral students undertaking research on various aspects of hospitality management to interact with peers and leading scholars in the field. The workshop offers doctoral students an opportunity to share and develop their research ideas in a supportive environment\, obtain feedback from mentors who are senior academics and established researchers\, explore issues related to academic and research careers\, and build relationships within the broader academic community from around the world. The event has purposefully integrated an early career researchers’ development session (so-called publication retreat) in the programme curriculum which enables doctoral students to meet editors of leading tourism and hospitality journals and gain first-hand advice on devising the most effective strategies for writing and submitting papers to top journal titles. \nThis PhD Workshop is provided FREE of CHARGE to those registered to attend the CHME 2018 conference. The CHME 2018 conference is heavily discounted for students to encourage active participation. For those willing to attend the PhD Workshop only\, there is a registration fee of £65. \n\nCall for Research Proposals \nThe workshop invites all interested doctoral students to submit their research proposals for review and feedback. The research proposals should be a maximum length of 4 A4 sized-pages and should typically include the following headings: \n\nProblem statement/definition;\nBrief literature review;\nConceptual development;\nProposed methodology;\nOutcome/Anticipated results;\n\nProposals can be submitted for presentation in either oral or poster format. 15 minutes will be allocated to oral presentations (10 minutes to present and 5 minutes for Q & A and feedback). Poster presentations will be available throughout the day for comments and feedback. Please state in your proposal which format you would like to present in. \nEach submission will undergo a review process. DESCRIPTION:Bournemouth University tourism experts organise again the BU Tourism Futures Forum @ WTM2013 and engage leading tourism practitioners from around the world on an interactive discussion to examine the future of tourism. The global challenges and opportunities for both tourism destinations and suppliers around the world require innovation in management and operations\, calling for a major rethinking of both strategic and tactical Tourism Management. The Tourism Futures Forum will provide an insight into the future dimensions of the tourism industry. It examines major trends in tourism demand and supply and explores the strategic changes that lead to the international tourism industry restructuring. The Forum will be organised by The University of Bournemouth in partnership with the World Travel Market and the TravelDailyNews are organising this forum to facilitate debate about the key strategic changes and to engage in a discussion about the successful response of the industry. The event will involve two short research-based presentations to stimulate discussion.
