Polish Ambassador Visits Bournemouth University

Earlier this week BU hosted a successful visit from the Polish Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency, Mr Witold Sobków.

Students from BA (Hons) Media Production, BA (Hons) Politics and BA (Hons) Journalism were involved in co-hosting the visit, which included a lecture given by Mr Sobków on the dynamics of Anglo-Polish relations in which he gave his perspective on Britain and Poland as players in European politics.

During the lecture, Mr Sobków reflected on the importance of engaging young people in politics: “It’s vital to involve young people in politics and we want as many as possible to be visible in parliament. I would encourage young Polish people living in Britain to vote in the British elections, in order to give them a voice and the opportunity to influence local government.”

The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session before the Media and Communication Faculty’s’ students had a chance to discuss foreign affairs issues with the Ambassador in a recorded interview panel session. The Ambassador also met with BU’s senior management team as well the Faculty’s staff members.

Pawel Surowiec, a Lecturer in Marketing Communications, who worked with the students to organise the visit said: “The visit gave our Media students a chance to gain an insight into the crossovers of international politics and the world of media. The Ambassador also had the opportunity to view some of the research and creative work from some of the academics in the Faculty.

“I know that since the visit, a number of our students have been exchanging tweets with the Ambassador, giving them a practical insight into the digital aspects of public diplomacy too.”
