Final Year Student Reflection – Attending the BU Graduate and Placements Fair

By Chelsea BattleCareers Fair 1

As a final year student reaching the end of my academic year, I was keen to find out about the opportunities available to me after graduation. I
went along to the BU Graduate and Placements Fair that took place on campus last week to find out about what was on offer for us students. It was a busy affair with three rooms full of stands and representatives from a variety of companies and industries. I had the pleasure of talking to smaller local companies such as Kondor, and bigger companies such as TK Maxx, M&S and JP Morgan, as well as many others.  The rooms were full and bursting with companies and information.

Upon arriving, I had to sign in where I was then presented with a map and a packet of sweets. This was a welcome introduction to a professional yet fun environment. One of my highlights was having an in-depth chat with some of the staff representing Merlin, who offer an amazing training programme, including living at different destinations for short periods of time. I found the representatives to be extremely helpful and personable, giving me all the information I needed, as well as free pens and a book. Another key highlight was all of the free make up I acquired from the Coty stand; powder, bronzer and eyeliner!

Overall attending the BU Graduate and Placements Fair was a wonderful opportunity and experience which introduced me to graduate schemes and placements that I would never have thought about. The staff I talked to were very good at offering advice on how to apply to the schemes and what they may be looking for in candidates. It was extremely beneficial to network, gain some information and knowledge and to start thinking about future career possibilities as I know Final Year will be over before too long.Careers Fair 2 updated

Based on my experience, I would highly recommend visiting similar events on campus for all final year students and those looking for a placement; it will certainly encourage you to think about your future!
