CMC welcomes Dr Deborah Gabriel

Deborah Gabriel 300x225Dr Deborah Gabriel, former journalist , journalism lecturer and founder of Black British Academics, joined CMC this week and is off with a bang.Deborah comes to Bournemouth University after completing her PhD at the University of Salford and brings six year’s of teaching and research and 11 years’ journalism experience to the Media School.

Her PhD research examines the use of blogs by African Caribbean people in  Britain and how their activities document subtle forms of prejudice and discrimination while demonstrating evolving forms of online political participation, centred on everyday issues.

Deborah will be teaching on all the CMC degrees, specifically teaching units like Social Communications, Political Journalism and Experiencing Politics.

She is also the founder of Black British Academics and the organiser of its  first Leaders Forum which will be held 8 October at the University of Westminster. The organisation’s primary aim is to improve racial equality in higher education through consultation, collaboration, advocacy and other proactive measures.The event expects to draw leaders from across the sector to develop strategies to facilitate long term improvements. Deborah and the event were featured in Wednesday’s edition of Research Professional and Research Fortnight.
