A team of final year advertising students took top honours in the prestigious AdVenture student competition in Barcelona this month.
Team Fellow’s Cameron Black, Flo Evans, Marta Cowburn Cuesta and Laura Merchan Mcaulay collected their awards in front of a rapturous audience. The award was presented at the annual Edcom conference, a prestigious event hosted by the European Association of Communication Agencies.
The AdVenture student competition drew entries from over 90 student teams from across Europe and Australia. It was open to all university-level advertising and marketing students and required them to respond to a brief from the European Commission to raise awareness of the commission’s initiatives amongst the youth unemployed. Although not the most glamorous of subjects it definitely presented a challenge for the students and resulted in some great ideas.
Three teams were chosen as finalists in the competition, one from Turkey and the other two from CMC! The competition formed an integral part of the advertising students final year unit Campaign Planning and the students were mentored on their journey by their tutors Melanie Gray and Juliette Hecquet.
Both of our teams, Daffadowndilly and Fellow did themselves and the university proud, receiving extremely positive comments from the judging panel and a number of influential industry practitioners at the conference. At the end of the Friday the winning team were announced and it was emotions all round when Fellow’s name was called out. This is an amazing achievement for all of those involved, as it is the second time in three years that students from BU have walked away with the top prize, with ‘Brutha’ winning in 2012. It not only reflects the quality of students at BU but reflects on the dedicated teaching team in the CMC department.
For their win, Fellow will enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.
