Copyright exceptions for filmmakers<\/strong>\u2019 on <strong>Tuesday 21<sup>st<\/sup> November 2023.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0The event will take place at <strong>The Regent\u00a0<\/strong>cinema in Christchurch, near Bournemouth \u2013 51 High St, Christchurch, BH23 1AS \u2013 bringing together a panel of leading scholars and practitioners in the fields of filmmaking and copyright law.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and can only be attended in person. Places are limited and can be booked through this bookitbee link:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/events.bookitbee.com\/university-of-glasgow-create\/create-public-lecture-series-bournemouth\/\">CREATe and CIPPM event \u2013 Bournemouth.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event \u2013 co-hosted by\u00a0<strong>Bartolomeo Meletti<\/strong>\u00a0(CREATe) and\u00a0<strong>Claudy Op den Kamp<\/strong>\u00a0(CIPPM) \u2013 will kick off at\u00a0<strong>2pm<\/strong> with the screening of two <strong>short films produced by Bournemouth University BA (Hons) Film students<\/strong>, who will present their work and describe their understanding of the exceptions they relied on to produce them. Following the screening, the panel of experts and practitioners will respond to the students\u2019 presentations and will discuss the scope of application of exceptions that are relevant for filmmaking and film education. After a short break, <strong>Professor Stef van Gompel<\/strong>\u00a0(Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and\u00a0<strong>Chris Morrison<\/strong>\u00a0(Bodleian Libraries) will introduce a panel discussion by briefly presenting the codes of best practices for documentary filmmakers and for film educators.<\/p>\n<div id=\"fws_653f7d3ae0f5e\" class=\"wpb_row vc_row-fluid vc_row inner_row standard_section \" data-midnight=\"\" data-column-margin=\"default\">\n<div class=\"row_col_wrap_12_inner col span_12 left\">\n<div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column column_container vc_column_container col child_column no-extra-padding inherit_tablet inherit_phone instance-4\" data-t-w-inherits=\"default\" data-bg-cover=\"\" data-padding-pos=\"all\" data-has-bg-color=\"false\" data-bg-color=\"\" data-bg-opacity=\"1\" data-hover-bg=\"\" data-hover-bg-opacity=\"1\" data-animation=\"\" data-delay=\"0\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The event in Christchurch on 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0November will offer a great opportunity to hear from experts how existing materials such as film and TV clips, music and images can be reused lawfully and creatively under UK copyright law, whether for educational purposes or in the creation of new films. Filmmakers, film and law students, lecturers, and anyone with an interest in filmmaking or copyright law (or both!) are encouraged to attend. The discussion will focus on copyright exceptions, provisions in the UK copyright act that enable the lawful reuse of protected works without permission from the copyright owner. It will also be an opportunity to discuss the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zenodo.org\/record\/7180853#.Y0QsAezMLUJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Code of Best Practices in Creative Reuse for Documentary Filmmakers<\/a>, co-developed by CREATe and IViR (University of Amsterdam) as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.recreating.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ReCreating Europe<\/a>\u00a0consortium; and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learningonscreen.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Code-of-Fair-Practice_Printable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Code of Fair Practice in Film Education<\/a>, co-created with Learning on Screen, the Bodleian Libraries and the University of Oxford, and City, University of London.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees are in for a treat. Together, they contend with a fragile existence lived solely through these traces of their work. The Afterlight exists as a single 35mm film print. Further eroding every time it screens, the film is a living document of its life in circulation.
