Artificial Intelligence and the many challenges it presents to intellectual property law is being widely discussed –\u00a0 from WIPO to copyright offices globally, in businesses and academia. Beyond the hype, this workshop seeks to explore the issues being faced by companies developing products and services using artificial intelligence, through the lens of practising lawyers who advise them.<\/span><\/p>\n

After opening remarks from Dr Maja Bogataj Jan\u010di\u010d, talking about the work being undertaken by the Data Governance Working Group of the\u00a0France and Canada\u00a0G7 initiated Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (<\/span>GPAI<\/span><\/a>), Jonas Holm (DLA Piper – Stockholm) and Andrew Katz (Moorcrofts) will talk about the day to day AI and IP issues they have been advising their corporate clients on. The workshop will focus on the practical intellectual property concerns and issues faced by companies creating products and services using artificial intelligence.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Maja Bogataj Jan\u010di\u010d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maja is the founder and head of the Intellectual Property Institute, a private research, training and consulting institution based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.\u00a0 Maja is the chair of the copyright working group at the Conference of European National Libraries (CENL). She is a Slovenian Creative Commons legal lead and a representative in the CC Global Network and a member of Communia association.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maja’s work has recently focused on data governance and AI, and copyright issues related to machine learning. She is co-chair of the data governance working group at the Global Artificial Intelligence Partnership (GPAI).<\/span><\/p>\n

Jonas Holm<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jonas is Senior Associate at DLA Piper in Stockholm and specialises in Business Law, Intellectual Property Law, Tech and Data Protection, Litigation and Public Law. He has a background working at the University of Stockholm before moving to the corporate sector, and has acted as a legal advisor to the Government of Sweden on intellectual property matters. He regularly advises and represents businesses, organisations and public entities and lectures at universities on a regular basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrew Katz<\/strong><\/p>\n

Andrew is Managing Partner and Head of Tech and IP at Moorcrofts, and has over 25 years\u2019 experience as a technology lawyer. He is one of the UK\u2019s leading free and open-source lawyers, is a Fellow of the Free Software Foundation Europe and the Open Forum Academy, and for 7 years held the post of visiting lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London, on Free and Open-Source Software and a visiting researcher at the University of Sk\u00f6vde, Sweden where he has co-authored papers whose findings have been adopted into Swedish government policy.<\/span><\/p>\n
