It is a collaboration aimed at enhancing the impact, engagement, and knowledge transfer around the <a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2015\/06\/02\/endow\/\">EnDOW project (2015-2018).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The EnDOW project\u00a0has developed an online resource \u2013 the <a href=\"http:\/\/diligentsearch.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Diligent Search Tool<\/a> \u2013 that helps libraries, museums and archives to clear copyrights in their orphan works. These are works in which copyright still subsists but whose rights holders are unknown or cannot be located. In order to lawfully digitize and make such material available to the public, the holding institutions must prove they have carried out an unsuccessful \u201cdiligent search\u201d of the copyright owners. While this requirement results in a burdensome process, for which many cultural institutions lack resources and expertise, the <a href=\"http:\/\/diligentsearch.eu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EnDOW Diligent Search Tool<\/a> facilitates this task and makes it feasible also to users with no specialized knowledge of copyright law.<\/p>\n<p>Against this background, the follow-on project <strong>EnDOW Community: Unlocking Orphan Films<\/strong> aims at engaging communities of film lovers in the task of performing diligent searches on untapped film archive material owned by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfi.org.uk\/\">British Film Institute (BFI)<\/a> and other Regional film archives, so that such material can be lawfully digitized and made available to the public.<\/p>\n<p>All information and material on EnDOW Commity is available from <a href=\"https:\/\/diligentsearch.eu\/\">DiligentSearch.EU<\/a><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6397 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2020\/01\/BFI.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6446 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2020\/03\/logo-AHRC.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"71\" \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EnDOW Community is a one-year project n collaboration with the British Film Institute (BFI) funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
