{"id":4843,"date":"2016-10-02T21:32:29","date_gmt":"2016-10-02T21:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/?p=4843"},"modified":"2025-01-02T15:00:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-02T15:00:35","slug":"award-winning-short-film-game-is-on-episode-ii-published-by-copyrightuser-org","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2016\/10\/02\/award-winning-short-film-game-is-on-episode-ii-published-by-copyrightuser-org\/","title":{"rendered":"Award-Winning Short-Film &#8216;Game is On!&#8217; Episode II &#8211; Published by Copyrightuser.org"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copyrightuser.org<\/a> &#8211; a collaboration between the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management (CIPPM) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.create.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CREATe,<\/a> University of Glasgow, has produced <a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/the-game-is-on\/episode-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Episode II of the &#8216;Game is On!&#8217; Series.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project led by Principal Investigator for Bournemouth University, <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2014\/04\/23\/dinusha-mendis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Dinusha Mendis<\/a>, was initially funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.bournemouth.ac.uk\/fusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BU\u2019s Fusion Investment Fund<\/a> in 2012. Since 2013 the project has been successful in securing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahrc.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AHRC funding<\/a> under the leadership of Dr. Mendis and in November 2015, won the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahrc.ac.uk\/newsevents\/news\/winners-research-in-film-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AHRC Innovation in Film Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/the-game-is-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game is On!<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copyrightuser.org<\/a> is a s a series of short animated films that puts copyright and creativity under the magnifying glass of Sherlock Holmes, providing a unique, research-led and open access resource for school-aged learners and other creative users of copyright. Drawing inspiration from well-known copyright and public domain work, as well as recent copyright litigation, these films provide a springboard for exploring key principles and ideas underpinning copyright law, creativity, and the limits of lawful appropriation and reuse.<\/p>\n<p>Episode I of the &#8216;Game is On!&#8217; Series titled The Adventure of the Girl with the Light Blue Hair\u00a0 won the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahrc.ac.uk\/newsevents\/news\/winners-research-in-film-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AHRC Innovation in Film Award<\/a> in November 2015 and was shortlisted for a <a href=\"http:\/\/bufvc.ac.uk\/events\/learningonscreen\/learning-on-screen-award-2016-nominations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BUFVC Learning on Screen Award<\/a> in April 2016 and has been recently used by Into Film to develop the educational resource \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intofilm.org\/resources\/1089\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exploring copyright for clubs<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The accompanying <a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/the-game-is-on\/episode-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Case Files<\/a> &#8211; a feature of the &#8216;Game is On!&#8217; series &#8211; for Episode I was authored by CIPPM&#8217;s Co-Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2014\/04\/23\/dinusha-mendis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Dinusha Mendis<\/a> and CIPPM PhD Candidate, <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2014\/05\/13\/hayleigh-bosher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ms. Hayleigh Bosher<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Episode II titled <a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/the-game-is-on\/episode-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Adventure of the Six Detectives<\/em><\/a> is also accompanied by a number of Case Files, authored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.create.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CREATe<\/a> researchers Megan Rae Blakely and Andrea Wallace and offer points of discussion around many of the most pressing copyright questions and concerns faced by screenwriters: <a href=\"http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/the-game-is-on\/episode-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/copyrightuser.org\/the-game-is-on\/episode-2\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The short films are written, directed and produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/pure.qub.ac.uk\/portal\/en\/persons\/ronan-deazley(55f8219d-d9b4-4192-ad7e-f10e5a7d7d0a).html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Ronan Deazley<\/a> (Queen\u2019s University Belfast) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.create.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CREATe<\/a> producer Bartolomeo Meletti (currently seconded to the British Film Institute) with Art Direction \/ Design by Marco Bagni, illustrations by Davide Bonazzi and music by SFX:Sarco.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Copyrightuser.org &#8211; a collaboration between the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management (CIPPM) and CREATe, University of Glasgow, has produced Episode II of the &#8216;Game is On!&#8217; Series.
