{"id":4747,"date":"2016-07-12T23:35:42","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T23:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/?p=4747"},"modified":"2016-08-07T21:07:50","modified_gmt":"2016-08-07T21:07:50","slug":"fossilisation-innovation-and-3d-printing-is-ip-law-under-pressure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2016\/07\/12\/fossilisation-innovation-and-3d-printing-is-ip-law-under-pressure\/","title":{"rendered":"Fossilisation, Innovation and 3D Printing: Is IP Law under Pressure?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 11th July 2016, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/nuls\/research\/groups\/lisgroup\/\" target=\"_blank\">Law, Innovation and Society Research Group<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/nuls\/research\/groups\/\" target=\"_blank\">Newcastle Law School<\/a> hosted a 2-day event on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/media\/wwwnclacuk\/newcastleuniversitylawschool\/files\/Fossilisation%20and%20Innovation%20Schedule.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;<\/a>Fossilisation and Innovation<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/media\/wwwnclacuk\/newcastleuniversitylawschool\/files\/Fossilisation%20and%20Innovation%20Schedule.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;<\/a> exploring law&#8217;s response to innovation and emerging technologies.<\/p>\n<p>CIPPM Co-Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2014\/04\/23\/dinusha-mendis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Dinusha Mendis<\/a> was invited to speak at the event and focused on her research into the IP implications of 3D Printing. In her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/media\/wwwnclacuk\/newcastleuniversitylawschool\/files\/Fossilisation%20and%20Innovation%20Schedule.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">presentation exploring law&#8217;s resilience to dynamic change<\/a>, Dr. Mendis questioned whether legislators should <em>adapt<\/em> to innovation whilst <em>adopting<\/em> innovative regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The 2 day event began with a keynote speech by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.berkeley.edu\/php-programs\/faculty\/facultyProfile.php?facID=1141\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Dan Faber of UC Berkeley<\/a> and concluded with a keynote speech by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/law\/people\/academic\/kyeung.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Karen Yeung of Kings College London<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;next steps&#8217; arising from this workshop will be posted here; please watch this space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On 11th July 2016, the Law, Innovation and Society Research Group of Newcastle Law School hosted a 2-day event on &#8216;Fossilisation and Innovation&#8216; exploring law&#8217;s response to innovation and emerging technologies.
