{"id":1982,"date":"2014-05-20T00:53:26","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T00:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites-dev.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/?p=1982"},"modified":"2014-07-18T07:50:29","modified_gmt":"2014-07-18T07:50:29","slug":"3d-printing-understanding-the-technology-and-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2014\/05\/20\/3d-printing-understanding-the-technology-and-law\/","title":{"rendered":"3D Printing: Understanding the Technology and Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/staffprofiles.bournemouth.ac.uk\/display\/dmendis\">Dr. Dinusha Mendis<\/a>, Co-Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/\">Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management<\/a> (CIPPM) will host an event on the <a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/festival-of-learning\/events\/3d-printing-understanding-the-technology-and-the-law\/\" target=\"_blank\">technological and legal implications of 3D Printing<\/a> as part of Bournemouth University&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/festival-of-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\">Festival of Learning 2014<\/a>. \u00a0The event will take place on Monday 9 June.<\/p>\n<p>The event will define the technological challenges and opportunities which 3D printing provides. \u00a0How easy is it to actually print a product using a 3D printer? \u00a0What are the technological barriers at present? \u00a0The exploration of the technology will be followed by a consideration of the intellectual property implications which 3D printing entails. \u00a0If low-cost 3D printers allow people to print\u00a0products such as toys, cosmetics and hobby items at home, what does this\u00a0mean for intellectual property law?<\/p>\n<p>To answer these questions, Dr. Mendis will be joined by colleagues from the <a href=\"http:\/\/dec.bournemouth.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">School of Design, Engineering and Computing<\/a> \u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/media.bournemouth.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">Media School<\/a> at Bournemouth University.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0event will be brought to an end with a tour of the 3D printing\u00a0facilities at Bournemouth University which will give attendees an opportunity to see 3D printers at work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Dinusha Mendis, Co-Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management (CIPPM) will host an event on the technological and legal implications of 3D Printing as part of Bournemouth University&#8217;s Festival of Learning 2014. \u00a0The event will take place on Monday 9 June.
