{"id":1703,"date":"2013-06-05T17:33:09","date_gmt":"2013-06-05T17:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/microsites-dev.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/?p=1703"},"modified":"2014-06-08T18:52:50","modified_gmt":"2014-06-08T18:52:50","slug":"dinusha-mendis-featured-in-geneva-london-and-glasgow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/2013\/06\/05\/dinusha-mendis-featured-in-geneva-london-and-glasgow\/","title":{"rendered":"Dinusha Mendis featured in Geneva, London and Glasgow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Dinusha Mendis, Senior Lecturer in Law and Co-Director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/\">Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management<\/a>\u00a0has featured in recent articles, interviews and guest talks for her research into 3D printing and its implications for Intellectual Property (IP) Laws.<\/p>\n<p>Her research in this area led to an interview for the United Nations Agency,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wipo.int\/portal\/index.html.en\">World Intellectual Property Organisation<\/a>\u00a0(WIPO) Geneva, for their prestigious magazine the World Intellectual Property Review (WIPR). Dr. Mendis was featured in the article &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldipreview.com\/article\/the-shape-of-things-to-come\">The Shape of things to Come: 3D Printing<\/a>&#8216; published on 1 May 2013. In this article, Dr. Mendis suggests that in looking to the future and in adapting to 3D printing, businesses should look to market-driven business models\u2013for example, by setting up an iTunes-style store for spare product parts, or by licensing 3D files more widely. It is important for businesses to &#8216;adapt&#8217; to this new technology and &#8216;adopt&#8217; new business models.<\/p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"World Intellectual Property Review\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bournemouth.ac.uk\/research\/files\/2013\/06\/WIPR2.jpg\" \/>\n<p>Also during the month of May, Dr. Mendis was invited by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openrightsgroup.org\/\">Open Rights Group, London<\/a>\u00a0to write for their magazine ORGZine, on 3D Printing and its implications for IP Laws. The article titled &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/zine.openrightsgroup.org\/features\/2013\/unravelling-3d-printing-and-intellectual-property-laws-from-napster-to-thingiverse-and-beyond\">Unravelling 3D Printing and Intellectual Property Laws: From Napster to Thingiverse and Beyond<\/a>&#8216; was published on 21 May 2013.<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/ORG.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2454 alignnone\" alt=\"ORG\" src=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/ORG-300x63.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"63\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/ORG-300x63.jpg 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/ORG.jpg 392w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>On the 28th May 2013, Dr. Mendis was invited to speak at the University of Glasgow, at an event\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.create.ac.uk\/\">organised by CREATe,\u00a0<em>the RCUK Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Creative Economy<\/em><\/a>. The event titled &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.create.ac.uk\/conversations2013\/\">Conversations in Copyright<\/a>&#8216; considered the regulation and enforcement of Copyright on the Internet. At this event, Dr. Mendis was invited to speak about her research into 3D Printing with a specific focus on copyright law.<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/copyright-conservations.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2452 alignnone\" alt=\"copyright-conservations\" src=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/copyright-conservations-300x51.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"51\" srcset=\"https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/copyright-conservations-300x51.jpg 300w, https:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/cippm\/files\/2013\/06\/copyright-conservations.jpg 410w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>At present, Dr. Mendis is in the process of authoring a paper on 3D Printing with a specific focus on copyright which will be published in autumn. She will also be presenting her research into 3D Printing and IP Law at the Festival of Learning on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/fol\/culture-society\/enterprise-security-mitigating-fear-uncertainties-and-doubts\/\">Thursday 6th June<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk\/fol\/culture-society\/20-years-of-law-at-bu\/\">Tuesday 11th June 2013<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mendis is the author of &#8216;Clone Wars&#8217;: Episode 1 &#8211; The Rise of 3D Printing and its Implications for Intellectual Property Law&#8217; which\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bournemouth.ac.uk\/research\/2013\/02\/20\/dr-dinusha-mendis-publishes-paper-on-3d-printing-and-ip-law-and-is-interviewed-by-the-bbc-on-the-topic\/\">was published in a 3-star journal and was followed by an interview for the BBC Radio 5 Live<\/a>\u00a0in February 2013.
