Am I Hired? What does your social media profile say about you?

Colleagues from the University of Lincoln presented a rather innovative tech tool, “Am I Hired?” at the recent ALT Annual Conference, 2018 in Manchester, 11-13 September.

70% of employers profile potential job candidates via online search engines and individual social media sites in order to select an appropriate job applicant (Salm, 2017). Learning Technologists and researchers at the University of Lincoln posed this question: “If students had an opportunity to see everything they’ve made public across social media, in curated space, would this encourage them to proactively adjust how they used social media to enhance their own employability?”

The Lincoln team have determined that use of the Am I Hired?, to date, has revealed interesting trends in how students use social media. Am I Hired? allows users to create a ‘social media CV’ providing a snapshot of their public profile in one, curated space.

The online app is free to use, though if you want to use it with your students, the University of  Lincoln does have a creative commons license, so you will need to contact them to let them know you are using it. Check out the app here: https://amihired.lincoln.ac.uk/
