The first PG Dip TEL unit completes

Friday 5th May saw the last session in the technology enhanced learning (TEL) unit that comprises part of the PG Diploma in Education Practice.  Over the last 3 months, the unit has been offered to staff as CPD and, now that it has been validated, it will be offered again in 17-18 as both a CPD offering and a 20-credit unit.

The unit was a mixture of face to face and online sessions with opportunities to look at the flipped classroom, options for blended learning, virtual classrooms, social media, virtual reality and other TEL tools from the TEL Toolkit all underpinned with pedagogic and theoretical perspectives.

I had the good fortune to lead the unit and it was very rewarding.  For me the most enjoyable aspect was to be surrounded by colleagues with a great interest in how TEL can support their teaching and learning.  It was fascinating to hear how staff had tried out new approaches and to discuss the contextual and situational aspects that facilitated the successful adoption of TEL.  As a group, we are going to continue to meet so that the benefits of shared experiences, mutual support and co-creation can develop in the future.  As we were not able to try out all the pedagogies and tools discussed, the on-going meetings provide an opportunity for us to test out new approaches and gain the support, advice and guidance from others in the group.

If you are interested in joining this unit in the next academic year or any of CEL’s other PG Dip units, please look out for notification on the CEL blog in the coming weeks.
