TeachBU – 100 up

TeachBU, the CPD route to gaining recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), recently awarded its 100th fellowship – to Michael Silk (Professor of Sport, Faculty of Management).

Professor Silk said: “It is an honour to be awarded a Senior Fellowship of the HEA. Doing so through the TeachBU scheme offers recognition for teaching, mentoring, and/or leadership experiences during the course of a career. Continued reflection on the series of case studies that form the portfolio for Fellowships will no doubt aid in further developing excellence at BU. I am grateful for the advice and guidance of staff at TeachBU, and hope that my experiences will be useful for future Fellows”

Dr Sue Eccles, the Academic Lead for TeachBU commented: “This is a significant achievement for BU and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting and recognising excellent education practice. It brings us closer to our target of all academics holding either a recognised teaching qualification in HE and/or HEA Fellowship. Our success is due in no small part to the team of TeachBU ‘graduates’ who now act as mentors, workshop facilitators and Assessors.”

TeachBU is a CPD provision accredited by the HEA which enables those involved in HE teaching and learning support (e.g. academics, librarians, demonstrators, PGR students etc.) to have their commitment to professionalism in education recognised. Many UK universities have a similar in-house accredited scheme and TeachBU aligns both with the central HEA scheme as well as those based in other institutions. There are now over 86,000 HEA Fellows worldwide.
