Self-assessing your digital skills

CEL is developing a digital skills self-assessment questionnaire which has the aim of identifying the digital skills of BU’s academic staff.

What is the purpose of the questionnaire?

The purpose of this questionnaire is to capture information about the level of confidence in digital skills across BU, especially in the area of teaching and learning and for BU academic staff.  This questionnaire is jointly sponsored by the Centre for Excellence in Learning (CEL) and The Vision4Learning project and forms part of wider initiatives to support staff in delivering excellent teaching and learning for students.

Who is being asked to participate?

The questionnaire is initially focused on BU teaching staff but it can be completed by all BU staff.

Do I have to take part?

No. It is up to you whether you take part. However, we hope all BU academic staff will be willing to complete the questionnaire.  If you do decide to take part you will be asked to complete a consent form.

How long will it take to complete?

Between 10 and 15 minutes.

Will my taking part be kept confidential?

Yes, if that is what you wish.  Entering your name is optional.  We would like to build a comprehensive picture of TEL skills across faculties and departments so the greater the response rate the better.  Any use of the data for future research will be anonymous.

How will this benefit me?

The questionnaire will give you an opportunity to assess you skills and confidence in the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) area.  This information can be used as a basis for development, perhaps using the TEL Toolkit to help you.  If the assessment shows you have TEL strengths, you may want to contact CEL with a view to helping other BU academics with their own skills, running workshops or engaging in wider CEL activities.

When you have completed the questionnaire, you have the opportunity to print or download it as a permanent record.

We would like to use the questionnaire as the basis for aligning the support activities of CEL and other BU departments and to achieve this we may ask you to complete the questionnaire more than once.

Test questionnaire – how you can help

In the period before the launch of the TEL Toolkit and Digital Skills questionnaire next week, we are asking staff to test the questionnaire.  It is accessible here: https://bournemouth.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/digital-skills-test

If you have any feedback on the questionnaire, please add it here: https://bournemouth.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/cel-tel-toolkit-feedback
