Things to do
Life at BU is about broadening your mind, fulfilling your potential and finding hidden strengths and new talents. But it’s also about having a good time!
There’s a wide variety of things to do at BU, and in Dorset – here are some suggestions:
Clubs and societies.
One of the best ways to make friends and have fun at BU is through one of our clubs and societies. There are almost 100 clubs and societies, including ultimate Frisbee, wildlife conservation and an anime club.
- is the name of BU’s sports facilities. You can enjoy heavily discounted prices for the gym or fitness classes. You can also book some of the facilities, such as the 3G artificial football pitches, to enjoy playing sports with your friends.
Events.
There are many events that take place at BU throughout the year, including balls and courses. BU’s student bar, the Old Fire Station, also hosts a number of gigs and club nights for students too.
Music.
BU Music has a whole range of musical opportunities for students, staff and the local community. You can learn a new instrument, join the choir or spend a relaxing evening listening to BU’s orchestra.
Learn a language.
Enhance your CV by taking the time to learn a new language. Our Language Centre offers the opportunity for students to be able to learn languages including French, Spanish, German, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic.
Volunteering.
Take some time to give something back to the community you live in. We run a number of volunteering opportunities for students and volunteering to offer support and help can really benefit people and improve your CV!
- is an outstanding extracurricular option designed to equip you with all of the skills you need to enhance your employability and give yourself a head-start in the working world.
Art.
Our main campus, Talbot Campus, hosts its very own Art Gallery, the Atrium Gallery and Balcony. You can also get involved in a number of activities by attending one of our art workshops.
Explore!
Dorset is famous for its beautiful coastline, while the New Forest is only a short journey away. While you are at BU it is highly recommended that you visit the local beaches and beauty spots to experience all that Dorset has to offer.
Out and about.
Dorset has a wide range of shops, entertainment outlets, restaurants and bars. Bournemouth Town Centre is the largest shopping area but Poole Quay is well worth trying for a more quaint and charming experience. Castlepoint Shopping Centre is also a popular destination for a shopping day out!
