Last Thursday 13 staff bravely took part in the charity ‘sponging’ event, the forfeit for the staff losing the Applied Sciences School Challenge last term.

The staff who took part were: Tilak Ginige, Damian Evans, Lizzy Craig, Alex Otto, Richard Madgwick, Richard Stillman, John Stewart, Ross Hill, Gill Seaton, Marie Dunning, Rebecca Dolling, Kevin McGhee, and Chris Moody.

We were very lucky with the weather, as it was freezing cold, wet and overcast in the morning, but soon cleared to a bright, relatively calm and warm afternoon. Overall we raised a little over £80 on the day that will go to Julia’s House (hospice for children), with staff and students paying 50p a sponge.

Some members of staff were more (un)popular than others, being called to the stocks multiple times over the course of the sponging. It’s unknown what Damian Evans did to deserve it, but one student even put in £5 to throw a bucket of water over him!

Overall the event was a great success, with everyone (volunteers included) having good fun.
