Josie Pegg, Research Assistant writes:
On the 6th of October at 7.30pm I am giving the October Marine Life Talk at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton on our work on the Boscombe Surf Reef.
The talk will present data collected by Bournemouth University and our partners the Dorset Wildlife Trust Sea search and the National Oceanography Centre, and tells the story so far of the colonisation of Boscombe surf reef.
I will discuss the important questions surrounding the environmental impact of the reef:
- How does the biodiversity of the surf reef differ from other areas in Poole Bay?
- Could the artificial surf reef alter the fish community?
- Are the species colonising the reef native or invasive?
- What can be learned from the surf reef that could be used in the design of other artificial structures?
Underwater photographs and video collected from surveys of the reef will be used to illustrate the talk.
Entry is free, and full details including location can be found here http://noc.ac.uk/news/marine-life-talk-%E2%80%93-6-october-2011
- Date: 6th October 2011
